Another thrilling match week in Serie A

Fiorentina celebrate their 5-1 victory over Roma

ROME - Match week nine was a goal fest with 34 goals in the nine matches and no result ending goalless. The attackers in Serie A continue to run riot as the goals keep flowing.

Highlights of the match week included top of the table clash between long time rivals Inter Milan and Juventus. The match was a thrilling exhibition of world-class attacking, with both sides putting four goals into the back of their opposition’s net. The best of the lot was scored by Juventus’ Pablo Dybala who perfectly found the bottom right hand corner of the goal after a dribbling past a defender. This draw means that Inter still sit second in Serie A with Juventus only one point behind.

There were two other particularly high scoring encounters. The first was between Atalanta and Verona. Verona proved no match for Atalanta, with the final score of 6-1. Atalanta showed their skill and quality, neatly working the ball around the Verona penalty box before placing the ball in the back of the net for several of their goals. However despite this, the goal of the game certainly belonged to Verona’s Amin Sarr who scorched a half-volley into the top corner of Atalanta’s goal, giving the goal keeper no chance at all.

The other high scoring game was between Fiorentina and Roma, with Fiorentina victors by five goals to one. Roma struggled greatly, with Fiorentina’s fast attackers proving to much for the defence. This became even more evident after Roma’s Mario Hermoso was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. The player of the match was Moise Kean thanks to his brace of stunning goals.

Elsewhere, Napoli beat Lecce 1-0 to remain top of Serie A, and Torino beat Como by the same scoreline. Cagliari lost 2-0 to Udinese after they had a man sent off and Lazio beat Genoa 3-0. The only two draws of the week were 1-1 between Parma and Empoli, and 2-2 between Monza and Venezia.

So, as it stands in the table  Napoli leads Inter Milan by four points with only a further four points covering Inter Milan in second to Torino in ninth. At the other end of the table Lecce and Venezia continue to struggle with only five points each, with Genea only head by one point in eighteenth. However, it remains early in the Serie A season, as it is still all to play for.
