Chaos on Italian train network after problem with the tracks between Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina
ROME - There has been a slow recovery of the train timetables after a problem with the tracks caused chaos on Wednesday morning. The Trenitalia website states that: “train departures have slowed down a lot” and “highspeed, Intercity, and Regional trains are severely delayed up to 160 minutes, with rout limitations and cancellations taking place.” Trenitalia has reported that the delays have been caused by a line failure between Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina.
These delays have invoked more damning condemnations of the transport ministry. Nicola Fratoianni of the Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra has said that: “For months Italian have been harassed by unsustainable delays and breakdowns on high-speed and regional routes.”
The Vice-President of the parliamentary Transport Committee Andrea Casu had similar words of condemnation: “The delays cannot be quantified, as well as the damage that all passengers will suffer even today, the only certain thing is that we have the worst transport minister in Europe. It’s a national emergency.”
It is uncertain how long these delays will last. Trenitalia recommends that you check your train before you travel.
