Two injured as turbulence causes easyJet flight to emergency land in Rome

The easyJet flight 8210 was forced to emergency land in Rome after encountering turbulence

ROME -- Investigations are ongoing to understand why a plane travelling from Corfu to London Gatwick was forced to emergency land in Rome. Two flight attendants were injured but received medical assistance at Roma Fiumicino airport, easyJet has said.

The Airbus A320 was travelling to London Gatwick on Monday afternoon when it encountered turbulence in Italian airspace at around 1:00 p.m. The pilot subsequently decided to emergency land the plane in Rome.

Investigations are ongoing as to whether the plane, which was travelling over 8,000 metres high and at a speed of 779 kilometres per hour, had to land because of an unexpected meteorological incident or whether the problem had been picked up on the plane’s radar but underestimated by the pilot, Roma Today reported on Wednesday.

Passengers that landed in Rome were able to take another flight later in the day back to London Gatwick.
