Man, 59, decapitates brother, throws head off balcony in Campania

ROME -- A 59 year old man stabbed his older brother to death before decapitating him and tossing the head off their balcony in Benevento on Wednesday, according to the Carabinieri.

According to the first reconstructions of the events, Benito Miarelli, 59, had argued with his older brother, Annibale, 65, on Wednesday evening. When Annibale had gone to sleep, Benito entered the bedroom and inflicted multiple stab wounds to his brother’s abdomen and neck. He then beheaded Annibale, throwing his brother’s head off the balcony of the home they shared.

Following the murder, a neighbour reported that Benito had gone to them in a confused and altered state, asking to call the Carabinieri. Both the Carabinieri and fire brigade attended the scene, before taking Benito to the Capodimonte prison where he confessed to the murder.

According to statements from neighbours, the two brothers had lived together in recent years, as Annibale moved back to the Benevento from Rome, following the death of his wife.
