Husband of MEP Francesca Donato found strangled in Palermo
ROME -- Angelo Onorato, husband of MEP Francesca Donato, has been found strangled in his car in Palermo, police said.
Onorato who worked as an architect was found in the driver’s seat with a zip tie around his neck on a street parallel to Via Ugo La Malfa.
Donato was elected as an MEP in 2019 under the League Party but has also represented the Christian Democratic Party (DCS). The leader of the party is former President of Sicily, Salvatore Cuffaro who was arrested and charged with aiding Cosa Nostra.
Donato, who is also a lawyer, ran for the 2022 municipal elections with the DCS, winning nearly 850 votes which allowed her to enter the Sicilian Assembly.
It appears that Onorato had organised a meeting with someone on Viale Regione Siciliana, where the car was found.
“They have killed my husband Angelo.” Donato had reportedly told friends who called to confirm the identity of the victim.
Nuccia Albano, a spokesperson for the DCS arrived at the scene. “ I can tell you that as a former forensic doctor who has seen thousands of deaths for forty years, I do not believe in the suicide hypothesis. I think that Angelo Onorato was killed.”
