Anarchist protest in Rome calls for Cospito's release
ROME -- During the early hours of Wednesday, anarchists took to the streets of Tuscolano to protest the imprisonment of Alfredo Cospito and his wife Anna Beniamo.
Three rubbish bins were set ablaze in the centre of the street, accompanied by vandalism targeting bank windows and ATMs. A parked car nearby also sustained damage. The phrase "Anna and Alfredo free" was found at the scene.
Alfredo Cospito, an Italian anarchist, is due to appear in the Supreme Court today in Rome. He is currently facing a 23-year sentence at the Bancali Prison in Sassari charged with the knee-capping of Roberto Adinolfi and the 2006 Fossano bombing. From Oct 2022 to April 2023 he began a hunger strike, protesting the 41-bis regime, which involves solitary confinement for 22 hours each day.
Additionally, Cospito’s wife, Anna Beniamino faces a 17-year sentence for her role in the 2006 bombing.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
