Investigations started into continuous arson attacks around Rome

Rome- Investigations started to reveal the cause of the arson attacks carried out on Sunday morning when clouds of smoke appeared above Rome after a set of vessel arsons were committed around the eternal city, attacks which have now been claimed by anarchists.

In Ostiense, a gentrified area located in the south of Rome, more than 20 school buses were set alight and were completely destroyed on the main street Via Ostiense.

Whilst the emergency services raced towards Via Ostiense another attack was carried out in Viale Palmiro Togliatti where 16 Italian post vans were set on fire. Firefighters managed to limit damage through quick and efficient extinguishing, so none of the other vehicles surrounding the scene got damaged, and nobody got injured.

Later that morning, blog posts on Anarchist forums claimed responsibility for the arson attack against the Italian Post saying: “We salute the 150th day of the hunger strike of our brother and comrade Alfredo Cospito - we read - giving us the joy of attacking the infrastructures of the Italian state with fire, specifically we set fire to 16 cars owned by the Italian Post Office.” Another post read: “proud to join the campaign of revenge, against the abomination of 41 bis, life imprisonment and Alfredo's death sentence launched against the Italian state.”

The Municipality of Rome has already confirmed that these attacks were not coincidental as “the ravaging flames were triggered at multiple points”. The Major of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri is in contact with the Police Chief of Rome and the provincial commander of the fire brigade to determine the outcome of the investigations.
