Pope meets with president of Cyprus discussing future collaboration.
VATICAN CITY – On Monday, Pope Francis and president of the Republic of Cyprus met to cordially discuss the divided state of Cyprus. The Cypriot President, Mr. Nico Anastasiades, expressed his appreciation for the amiable relationship that Cyprus has with The Vatican.
A notable mention was made regarding the hopes of reunifying the disjointed island of Cyprus. The general sentiment was that the whole of the western Mediterranean region would benefit from an increased dialogue addressing any issues that come about.
Pope Francis and Mr. Anastasiades also discussed plans for enriching their bilateral relationship and developing their sectors of mutual interests. One of the topics discussed was the reception of more refugees, on part of both countries.
