Cyprus government to aid vaccination campaign in two African countries
NICOSIA -- The government of the Republic of Cyprus will pledge a donation to support the vaccination campaign for the Covid-19 pandemic in two African countries, Mozambique and the Central African Republic, in collaboration with the DREAM program of the Community of Sant'Egidio, which has been active for years for the treatment and prevention of AIDS in Africa, Vatican sources said.
The decision was made following the historic visit of Pope Francis, where he gave an appeal in favour of refugees on the island, who come largely from the African continent.
The funds allocated will make it possible to increase the number of anti-Covid-19 vaccinations in DREAM centres at a time when there is widespread concern for the new wave of cases occurring in many African countries, as well as the spread of the Omicron variant.
