Street art and twitter in 'home sweet home' solidarity

Nello Petrucci's street art

POMPEII – A mural called ‘Sweet Home’ appeared under a road bridge exhibiting a positive expression of social-distancing, which medical experts advise as key to preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Located on the outskirts of Pompeii near the La Cartiera shopping center, and appearing on Tuesday night, the mural portrays the Simpsons family, which includes Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

All are portrayed sitting on the sofa at home and watching TV, with their masks a satirical reference to the coronavirus. Also on Tuesday, the hashtag #iorestoacasa, or 'I stay at home', went viral on Twitter, in one of the more positive examples of how social media can be used to educate, prevent the spread of infection, and save lives.

The mural was by the artist Nello Petrucci, who has worked in Rome, Dublin, New York, and Pompeii, and carries out various independent projects including award-winning short films.
