Cultural event marks 300 years since Stuart royal wedding

Bonnie Prince Charlie

MONTEFIASCONE – To mark 300 years since the wedding of the parents of Bonnie Prince Charlie, a cultural event to honour the marriage is being held by the Polish embassy to Italy and the municipality of Montefiascone, in Viterbo, Central Italy.

The wedding ceremony of James Francis Edward Stuart, known as the “Old Pretender”, and Maria Clementina Sobieska, granddaughter of Polish king John III Sobieski, was held at Montefiascone in 1719.

The event, which will take place in Montefiascone, will feature history talks about the Stuart and Sobieski families, as well as the marriage and how it was recorded.  Mary Jane Cryan, author of The Painted Palace and other works, will be among the speakers.

The evening will conclude with traditional songs dedicated to Charles Edward Stuart, more commonly known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, sung by Kay McCarthy.
