COSENZA – Two men were shot dead in their car in the countryside of Corigiliano Rossano in what may have been a double murder organised by local criminal groups, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Special guard Pietro Greco, 39, and entrepreneur Francesco Romano, 44, were shot with pistol in what seems to have been an ambush. Their bodies were discovered in the Apollinara hamlet in Corigliano-Rossano near a gas station.

Greco, from Castrovillari, may have been an emerging figure in local organised crime. He had a criminal record for drug offenses dating to 2010, when he was arrested during an investigation into the cocaine trade between Pollino and Rosarno. Romano, on the other hand, had no criminal convictions.

Local police are on the scene of the crime with prosecutor of Castrovillari Eugenio Facciolla. The first stages of the investigation will be coordinated out by Facciolla, but the case is likely to end up with the prosecutor of Catanzaro Nicola Gratteri.
