Man confesses to Turin murder

Stefano Leo

Turin – A 27-year-old man who has confessed to the Murazzi murder said he killed Stefano Leo because “I couldn’t stand his happiness,” police sources revealed Monday.

Said Machouat, who turned himself in yesterday, told police he wanted to kill someone and he chose Mr. Leo “because among many, he seemed happy to me.”

Mr Leo was murdered in Turin on the banks of the Po on Feb. 23.

Police say there is no connection between the victim and the young Italian of Moroccan origin who took his life.

“I wanted to kill a guy like me, take away all the promise he had, take him away from his sons and parents,” Mr. Said told prosecutors Ciro Santoriello and Enzo Bucarelli.

The offender had bought his murder weapon – a knife – the morning of the murder, police said.

Said told investigators he had been suffering depression for some time. In the period of a few months, Said’s partner had left him and no longer let him see his son; he had lost his job as a cook and ended up on the streets.

“The worst thing is knowing that my four-year old boy called my ex-girlfriend’s companion, dad,” Said said.
