Man and pet to be buried together

MILAN – Lombardy has become the first Italian region to allow humans to be buried alongside their furry friends.

The law, approved 41 votes to 29, means man and his best friend – dog, cat or other pet – can continue their special relationship into the afterlife.

“Today, for the first time in our country, a regional law seals the bond of eternal love between human beings and their four-legged friends,” said leader of Forza Italia Gianluca Comazzi, whose amendment to the bill was approved by Lombardy’s Health Commission on Wednesday.

“I am very proud my proposal was received by the majority of the council; this vote marks an important step forward in terms of animal rights,” he said. “My hope is that other Italian regions follow our example.”
