Immunity for Salvini

Matteo Salvini with Luigi Di Maio

ROME – Members of Italy’s 5-Star Movement (M5S) have voted in favour of parliamentary immunity for League Leader Matteo Salvini, in a poll held on the M5S online platform Rousseau on Monday.

According to M5S’s online blog, 59 per cent voted to block a kidnapping trial against Mr Salvini, who is being investigated by Sicilian prosecutors for preventing a coastguard ship with some 150 migrants on board from landing in Sicily last year.
Mr Salvini thanked M5S leader and fellow Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio for behaving in a "fair" way.

“I would have thanked him even if the vote had been different because he had expressed himself in a clear way.”
