Calabrian Mayor arrested for corruption
COSENZA – The Mayor of Fuscaldo, a small town near Cosenza in Calabria, was arrested on Monday on charges of corruption and attempted embezzlement, according to sources.
The Italian financial police arrested Gianfranco Ramundo alongside a number of the members of his administration, including Deputy Mayor Paolo Cavaliere and a councillor whose identity is currently unknown. The charges levelled against the arrestees include corruption, bribery and attempted embezzlement.
Over 100 police were deployed on Monday to carry out the various arrests, judicial sources said. According to a spokesperson for the financial authorities, “a well-oiled corruption machine” had been unearthed by the police.
