2.2 magnitude earthquake hits Naples

NAPLES – An earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale has struck the seaside city of Pozzuoli and the Phlegraean district, in the province of Naples, local authorities said on Wednesday.

 The Vesuvius Observatory’s seismographs registered two strong tremors in sequence. The first shock, accompanied by a loud roar, was last night felt at 23.36 measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale.  Minutes later, a minor 1.4 magnitude shock followed, with a recorded depth of around 4 kilometres.

 There have been no reports of damage.
