More pieces of Ancient Rome have fallen off

ROME - A part of the outer wall of the Roman Forum has collapsed, no one has been reported as injured so far, report local firefighters.

Right before the eyes of disbelieving tourists, part of the Roman Forum crumbled just before 3pm. The outer wall which backs onto Via Monte Tarpeo was the site of the incident, and the stones which dislodged landed right next to the police hut on the street.

The area was immediately cordoned off by the municipal police and now the fire brigade is investigating whether the altar area is safe. On the scene are also the Piazza Venezia Carabinieri.

The incident has come just 24 hours after the collapse of the San Giuseppe dei Falegnami roof, a few streets away in the Campidoglio.
