"Prayer vigil for Italy" to be held in Trastevere

Community of Sant'Egidio

ROME – On June 7 at 6.15 p.m. a “Prayer Vigil for Italy” will be held in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere.

It will be presided by Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, the current president of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) as of May 24, 2017.

The community of Sant’Egidio is inviting all Christians to attend this vigil because in the months following the recent elections held on March 4, Italy has experienced a climate of tension and conflict.

The main objectives of politics and social and civic responsibility have been lost on many occasions, they claim, including protecting the weakest sections of the population and fighting for the common good.

Cardinal Bassetti will address these topics at length at the vigil.
