Life satisfaction stagnant in Italy?

Italian Family from the 50s

ROME - A recent study from ISTAT, the government’s statistical research organisation, has shown that Italians are not getting happier.

When asked "currently, how satisfied you are with your life on the whole?" Italians, of 14 and over, have answered with an average of 7 out 10 for the past 3 years.

Moreover, Italians have reported back that they rank their satisfaction with their home lives as 9 out of 10.

The results could be showing two things: Italians remain traditionalists, prizing family above all else, or that Italians withdraw into their family units because they find their lives outside of it less rewarding.

Either way, the notion of taking refuge within the family is not a surprise to anyone. As life satisfaction in Italy is stagnating, Italians may withdraw further from their public lives if elements that facilitate a fulfilling social life, such as the economy, suffer.
