TRENTO - A paedophile network has been uncovered by the Bolzano police through an online encrypted national platform . The Trento State Police arrested 10 people, carried out 47 searches and manage to obtain a large amount of computer material on the sexualisation of minors.

The investigation began in Feb. 2016 after a 38 year-old was found in possession of photo and video pornographic material of minors on his computer, and explained to police that he had downloaded the content from the internet. The validity of this statement is under question, as police have found over a hundred contacts across Italy in the computer taken from the man and have seen evidence of extensive use of the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) app in the digital software. From this discovery, investigators have been able to piece together connections in the paedophile ring, leading to the recent arrests.

Through specialised software, investigators have been able to reconstruct a lot of the conversations taking place on this app which related to the sexualisation of minors.  Over 48 people involved in the production of this illicit material have been questioned, in Trentino Alto Adige, Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Lazio, Abruzzo, Apulia, Campania, Sicily and Sardinia.

Further details are to be revealed later today at the press conference of the Postal and Communications Police Department of Trento.
