Camorra gunmen kill two in Naples centre

NAPLES— Gunmen riding powerful motor scooters shot and killed two men in the centre of this southern city Wednesday in a bloody settling of accounts between rival clans of the Camorra, the Neapolitan version of the Mafia, police said.

At least four assailants fired as many as 12 shots at the two, identified as Edoardo Amoroso and Salvatore Dragonetti, in the narrow ally where they lived near to Naples’ main railway station, the police said. Amoroso had a criminal record for drugs dealing and armed robbery while Dragonetti’s crime career included convictions for smuggling cigarettes and tobacco.

The dead men were members of the Mazzarella clan of the Camorra that was in competition with the rival Contini and Licciardi families of the Naples underworld.
