Bodies of two slain Italians arrive from Barcelona

VERONA - The bodies of Luca Russo and Bruno Gulotta, two of the Italian victims killed in the terrorist attack in Barcelona last Thursday, have arrived back home. A military aircraft carrying the remains landed at the Villafranca di Verona airport.

First to get off the plane were Mr Gulotta’s two sons, who miraculously survived the attack on Las Ramblas. Both men’s families were waiting for the coffins at the airport. Once the plane had landed, Chiara, Russo’s sister, and Martina, Gulotta’s wife, held each other in a long hug. Gulotta’s funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon in Legnano, while Russo’s funeral will be on Friday at Bassano del Grappa.

Bruno Gulotta’s colleagues have reported an attempt to profiteer from the victim’s online donation campaign, set up to help the wife and children he left behind. ‘This morning,’ read a post on the Tom’s Hardware site, ‘we received a phishing mail on the paypal account of Roberto Buonanno, the company’s Country Manager for Italy. As you know, we started collecting donations on this account because there was no time and chance to do otherwise.’

A phishing email is computer scam made by sending an e-mail using a fake logo. ‘We can only guess that the scam is spreading dangerously. We are about to file a formal complaint with the Communications Police, but we also ask for your help,’ the editors wrote online.

Donations from Bruno's friends, relatives, colleagues and contacts and Tom's Hardware readers came "but what really surprised us is the high number of donations from unknown people who have shown their sensitivity to the tragedy in the messages. They have sent out money from all over the world: the United States, Canada, almost all European countries, and even Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. A stunning response both in terms of the amount, which we will keep private until the end of the fundraising campaign, and the number of donors: over ten thousand between independent and business donations.’ This is why Gulotta's colleagues are considering setting up a committee or an association that oversees the use of the proceeds of the collection in full transparency.

Also waiting at Verona airport, for the flight which came from Ciampino, Rome, there was also the president of Veneto, Luca Zaia, and mayor of Verona Federico Sboarina. The latter said: ’In these times we remain close to the families, we make our condolences, but our proximity which we have had in the past few days, and we have today will be there especially in the coming weeks, which will be the most difficult for them.’
