VENICE- In our world obsessed with materialism and the quest to have more and more, it’s time to ask: How much is too much? You can reflect on this at the experimental A plus A Gallery in Venice from the 28 September 2017 to 31 January 2018 at a gallery opening dedicated to the question.

 Following the success of its Breakfast Pavilion, Gallery A plus A hosts the exposition “HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?” curated by a group of rising curators from the Venice School for Curatorial Studies. The exhibition invites artists and philosophers from around the world to reflect on the dynamics that the modern world’s fixation on “surplus” creates.

 The 1972 Italo Calvino book “Le cittàinvisibili” described the city of Leonia as a place whose “opulence is measured by what is thrown away every day to make space for the new. So much so that one wonders whether the true passion of Leonia is really, as they say, to enjoy new and different things, or rather to get rid of, distance and cleanse themselves of a recurrent impurity.” A plus A Gallery compares our world to that of Leonia: continually bombarded with incentives, choice and products. Globalised cities exhibit every day an infinite list of things to do, see, produce and consume. To overcome the overwhelming choice, we organise and categorise the world around us from music playlists to political opinions. How can we manage the infinite with which we are surrounded and avoid becoming excessive? How can we choose?

 We accumulate and eliminate, separating what we want to reveal and what we want to hide in our secret drawers and at the back of our mind.  "HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?” will look at what thoughts, objects and emotions can reveal that we decide to hide, how categorising as an attempt to avoid excess can affect our minds and society and the dangers of trying to putting labels on and constantly classifying things and thoughts instead of celebrating their freedom and variety. "HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?” will exhibit their archives whilst reflecting at the same time on our human need and desire to archive.

 “HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?” will run between September 28, 2017 and January 31, 2018 at A plus A Gallery in Venice.
