Juventus travel to Monaco in UCL semi-final

MONACO— Juventus, who boast the best defensive record in Europe, will take on the attacking might of Monaco as the French side host the Bianconeri in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final clash Wednesday evening.

The current leaders of Ligue 1 have notched a staggering 95 goals back home in France so far this season and will be looking to use their attacking artillery to unlock the Juventus defence, which has only conceded twice in Europe this season.

Juventus’ primary objective will be to subdue one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers, Kylian Mbappe. The 18 year old has scored 18 goals in his last 18 outings and his performance will be key to Monaco’s hopes of progressing to the final.

The Bianconeri, who are on course for their sixth successive Serie A title, advanced through to the semi-finals after a dominant 3-0 aggregate victory over Catalan giants Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

However, Juventus head coach Massimo Alegri has warned that despite his side’s European pedigree, they need to respect their opponents.

“Monaco have technical and tactical qualities as well as talented young players. They do not have the same history as Juventus but that doesn’t mean it will be easy for to make it through to the final,” Alegri told Italian media.

The game will kick off at 20:45 local time.
