Police arrest fugitive Mexican ex-governor

Mexican ex-governor, Ruvalcaba Tomas Jesus Yarrington

FLORENCE— The police on Monday arrested Ruvalcaba Tomas Jesus Yarrington, the 60-year old ex-governor of Tamaulipas in Mexico and member of the revolutionary institutional party.

At large since 2012, due to serve two life sentences, he was being hunted down internationally by the USA for criminal conspiracy, international drug trafficking, money laundering, bank fraud, tax evasion and false testimony in public authority documents.

Since 1998, the governor took advantage of his various official positions to facilitate the exportation of enormous quantities of cocaine and marijuana from Mexico to the USA. Yarrington accepted bribes from the drug traffickers, the transactions often being attributed with the conspicuous memo “Cartello del Golfo”, in exchange for enabling their illegal activity.
