Niger's Mahamadou Issoufou visits Comunità di Sant'Egidio

Issoufou at Comunità di Sant'Egidio

ROME-- Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger, visited the Comunità di Sant’Egidio on Saturday morning with a delegation from his government.

The president, Marco Impagliazzo, greeted him with some members of the Community. Among the topics discussed were peace in the Sahel region; interreligious dialogue; and the fight against poverty as an efficient way to prevent emigration, that is how helping the development of Africa is a necessary investment to facilitate young Africans being able to work for the future of their countries.

“The topic of migration is a priority for Niger” declared Marco Impagliazzo “because this country is at the centre of the route taken by human traffickers. The President Issoufou has displayed a deep sensitivity to this subject and, the first of the African states, offered condolences for the many victims of these journeys in the Sahara and the Mediterranean.”
