Lazio gang members arrested for murder of 20-year-old

Emanuele Morganti died after 2 days in agony

ROME-- On Wednesday the two men arrested for the murder of Emanuele Morganti, a 20-year-old boy who was beaten to death outside a bar in the province Frosinone, were named as stepbrothers Mario Castagnacci and Paolo Palmisani. Investigators suspect that a mix of alcohol and drugs consumed by the aggressors provoked the attack. Morganti was defending his girlfriend and died from the beatings after two days in agony. There are 7 suspected attackers, including the two stepbrothers

The chief prosecutor Giuseppe de Falco said it a press conference that “the two who have been arrested mix in criminal circles, and we can’t forget that they think they have control over that territory, and we are verifying if the violent behaviour was also caused by alcohol and drugs abuse.”

According to de Falco they used a baton and a tyre and “after the first attack Emanuele tried to get away and he was followed… then he came back to get his girlfriend and he was attacked again”. He added that “despite concrete evidence on the two people who have been arrested, there is still a lot to be investigated…we have heard a dozen reports and they’re all different, we’re reconstructing everything to understand who was involved in the attacks.”

The mayor of Alatri himself, Giuseppe Morini, has launched an appeal “if you know something speak out. I implore you all to tell the truth, to cooperate with the investigators so that those responsible can be punished as soon as possible. Alatri must not be ruled by omertà. There were so many people outside that bar, but no one stopped the aggressors or the shocking barbarism, it’s awful”

Emanuele’s girlfriend wrote a facebook status saying “I still haven’t got my head round everything that’s happened. You didn’t deserve any of this, you didn’t do anything wrong. Dying like this. I remember one of your last messages from Friday afternoon ‘I love you more than anything else’…and I’ll remember it forever, like I’ll also remember you. I love you and always will.”

We must “fight attacks, like the one that happened in Alatri two days ago.” The president Sergio Mattarella declared, talking to the Quirinale about the terrible episode that happened in the Lazio town two days ago, where a young boy lost his life following a brutal group attack.
