Four dead and one injured in climbing accident

AOSTA-- Four climbers have been left dead following the collapse of an Ice Wall in the Italina Alps early on Thursday morning close to the resort of Gressoney-Saint-Jean. The victims were performing a climb when part of the ice wall came away from the rock face. The only person to survive was a wounded woman. The victims are believed to be from Liguria.

According to Ansa, the working assumption is that a sudden rise in temperature was behind the accident. The temperatures have been freezing in the resort for some time now but the last few days has seen a rise in temperature that could have led to the ice dislodging.
