SIMON FINN concert at Asino che Vola, Rome, March 16
ROME – Anglo-Canadian psyche folk singer and Current 93 guitarist Simon Finn will play his first concert in Italy for years at the Asino che Vola club and restaurant in Rome March 16, the Italian Insider announced. Proceeds of ticket sales will go to the Italian Insider’s legal Defense Fund to help pay costs of fighting defamation suits brought in the Rome Tribunal by FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva and four other executives at the UN agency.
Special opening guests will include Nice Guys Collective with Rome-based American musician and composer John Heineman on saxophone and Diego Rughi on guitar.
Simon Finn offered to come to Rome to play for his many Italian and international fans to help raise funds to pay Insider’s legal costs in defending chief editor John Phillips against defamation suits brought by Graziano as well as by executives Clara Fraga, Sergio Lubetkin, Mehdi Drissi and Florentin Albu.
Graziano, Fraga, Albu and Lubetkin are demanding civil damages. Lubetkin wants not less than 100,000 euros. Italian Insider strongly denies defaming the FAO or the executives.
The trial resumes at the Rome Tribunal April 12 when Drissi, Graziano and Phillips are due to take the stand. Under Italy’s criminal libel law the judge may hand down a prison sentence in addition to hefty fines if an editor is convicted.
