Nadine 'will not speak' at appeal hearing, only lawyers

Nadine Heredia, former first lady of Peru

LIMA -- Former first lady of Peru, Nadine Heredia, will not attend the hearing Tuesday where the Judiciary will evaluate the appeal she submitted to be able to stay in Geneva, Switzerland, and sign her legal assistance in the Peruvian Embassy of the European city.

This was confirmed by lawyer Julio Espinoza Goyena, who indicated that Heredia “has not asked to speak (…) Only laywers will be present.”

Nadine has been prosecuted for money laundering along with her husband, former President Ollanta Humala.

However, according to Nadine’s defence, there is no reason why the ex-first lady should disassociate herself from her work with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.

Regarding the legal situation of her husband, Humala, the 50,000 sol he owes as security has still not been paid.

According to Agustin Molina, a member of the National Executive Committee of Peru, Nadine was very annoyed by the treatment she received during her presentation to the Supervisory Commission on Wednesday, where was present to answer questions on the subject of the alleged usurpation of functions during the Presidency of her husband.

Molina considers the Fujimori Bank to be committing a grave error and “abuse” in conducting the Supervisory Commission through the legislator Hector Becerril, claiming, “It is unacceptable that the chairman of an investigative Commission is throwing opinions around. There is a lack of regulation of the Congress,” also adding that “almost 80 percent of the Commission are members of Fuerza Popular and (the Commission) misuses its power when people like Nadine Heredia are presented.”
