Mafia Capitale investigation indicts 24 more people

The third section of the Mafia Capitale investigation has been closed

ROME -- After having closed the third section of the Mafia Capitale investigation, the capital’s public prosecutor’s office has asked for 24 more people to be put on trial, judicial sources said Friday.

Amongst the figures investigated for shady activities in the Eternal City are Salvatore Buzzi, the head of the Cooperativa29Giugno (July29Cooperative) -- already currently on trial in the context of the principle vein of the investigation; Francesco D’Ausilio, the former Democratic Party politician; and Giovanni Fiscon, the ex-Director General of AMA -- the company in charge of waste in Rome.

At the centre of this third section of the Mafia Capitale investigation are various episodes of corruption, bid-rigging, revelations of office secrets and illicit finances, that took place between 2011 and 2014.

The Piazzale Clodio public prosecutors have called for trials for many businessmen, government workers and politicians on charges of all of these crimes.

The request for these 24 notable figures in Rome to be put on trial was signed by the prosecutor Giuseppe Pignatone, by the assistants Paolo Ielo and Michele Prestipino, and by the public prosecutors Luca Tescaroli and Giuseppe Cascini.
