LIMA -- The Peruvian Foreign Ministry has issued an "energetic protest" to the Food and Agriculture Organisation over the UN agency's Brazilian director general Jose Graziano da Silva hiring Peruvian former first lady Nadine Heredia to head the FAO liaison office at the UN in Geneva despite the politician being at the heart of a massive corruption investigation, officials said Wednesday.

"After learning of the appointment of Señora Heredia as a functionary of the FAO, the deputy minister of foreign affairs expressed the displeasure and the protest of the Peruvian Government to the official FAO representative in Peru, John Preissing," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

“The decision could be interpreted as an interference with a fiscal investigation underway in Peru. We have asked that Mr Preissing may transmit this firm position from Peru to the FAO director general, with the aim that he might reconsider this appointment,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile the Peruvian press gave ample space to the Italian Insider's report of the bizarre appointment evidently designed to give Heredia diplomatic immunity from investigation http://peru21.pe/politica/nadine-heredia-tiene-cero-experiencia-desarrol...
