ROME -- Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin said Wednesday of the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, “We respectfully accept the choice expressed by the American population, and I have heard of the influx of votes in the ballot box. And so we give our wishes to the new president, may his time in office be fruitful. We shall pray for the illumination of Trump and support his service to his country, but also the service to the wellbeing and peace of the world. We all must work to change the global situation we face, which is indeed a great wound.”
