Two 13 year olds found dead in a ravine in Trentino

Rescue teams found the two boys on Wednesday night

DAONE -- Two 13 year old boys from Trentino were found dead in a ravine on Thursday after going on an excursion the day before, from which they never returned.

The two youngsters had set off from a mountain lodge on Thursday afternoon to go and take photos, but never returned home for dinner. According to preliminary information, after trying to find the boys themselves in the nearby surroundings, their families then alerted the rescue services.

The search and rescue team as well as volunteers from the fire services searched above the town of Daone, where the two boys lived. The search groups found the two boys during Wednesday night, at which point they were already dead.

According to Italian newspaper ANSA, the two boys were Fabio Battocchi and Federico Ashlar, who lived in the town of Daone in Trentino. They were due to start their third year of secondary school in September.

The boys were on their excursion in the Malga Staboletto area at the foot of Mount Adamello. They had gone up the mountain with Fabio’s grandfather, but when they did not return by nine o’ clock, the grandfather called for help.
