Englishwoman's pricey Dolce Vita dip

Woman takes a dip in the Trevi Fountain

ROME -- Inspired by the famous scene from ‘La Dolce Vita’ where Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni went swimming in the Trevi Fountain, 64 year old English woman Delilah Jay followed suit and also took a dip in the fountain with tourists watching her from all around in surprise.

Although it may have originally seemed like a romantic idea to imitate the scene from the famous Italian film, her swimming in the fountain cost her a fine of 450 euros for a lack of respect shown towards the Roman monument. A video posted on facebook by one of the tourists watching shows the woman blowing kisses to the crowd watching her, as she walks through the water. She seems to be enjoying the attention, but is interrupted stopped by a policeman who blows his whistle and ushers her out of the fountain.

The woman was accompanied by a photographer to capture her moment of indulgence, and he too was fined 450 euros for his involvement in the incident.

This bizarre act has not been the only one of its sort recently, as tourists have been caught swimming in the waters of the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi in Piazza Navona, as well as the Fontana dell’Acqua Paolo on the Janiculum hill, the fountain in Piazza del Popolo and now the Trevi fountain.
