Pope decries 'homicidal madness' in Nice

Pope Francis condemns attack on Nice

VATICAN CITY -- Pope Francis expressed his solidarity Friday for those killed in the lorry attack in Nice and the people of France as a whole, the press office of the Vatican said. He condemned “every act of homocidal madness, of hate, of terrorism, and every attack against peace,” having followed with deep concern the terrible news from Nice on Thursday night.

At least 84 people people were killed, including children, by a lorry which drove through through crowds celebrating Bastille Day in the southern French city.

Father Federico Lombardi, director of the press office of the Holy See, said that the Pope expressed his unity with those affected by the attack and the rest of the mourning country, who were attacked on a day which should have been a great celebration.
