Mafia group suspected for murder in Velletri

ROME – An Albanian man, who ran a pizzeria in the area Velletri on the outskirts of the city, was shot and killed on Sunday night, witnessed by his wife and daughter, police officials confirm.

The 33 year-old, who was without criminal record and who had run the pizzeria with his wife for six years, was killed whilst local festivities were going on in the streets outside. The killer, who had his identity largely protected by a helmet, shot three times, hitting the victim in the head twice, before escaping on a scooter.

This latest incident marks the second attack in less than three years, to take place in the Velletri area. In 2013, Federico Di Meo, a 37 an Italian, was shot in the same manner by Elvis Demce, an albanian who was part of a drug-trafficking group in the province of Rome. Investigations were carried out and it was revealed that Demce had been involved in a police enquiry the previous year on accusations of extortion, violence and international trafficking of hallucinogenic substances.

At present, the police and investigators of Velletri are looking in to Sunday’s killing, but they have made it clear already that it bears the marks of organised crime which is backed up by the increasingly evident mafia presence in the area. However what is currently puzzling the authorities is the choice of victim: while previous targets of the suspects in question have been linked to drug trafficking, Sunday’s victim has had no history with the police.
