Graffiti artists hit by train whilst painting

19-year-old Italian citizen Naryshev Svyatoslav

MILAN -- Two young graffiti artists have been run over by a train on the outskirts of Milan.  The younger of the two, a 19-year-old Russian named Naryshev Svyatoslav, has died, whilst the 21-year-old Italian is in a serious condition.  It has been reported that the driver did not feel the impact, though police are investigating.

The incident occurred on the Milan Greece Pirelli line at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening near via Venezia in Sesto San Giovanni.  According to what can be gathered, the two young men were painting a graffiti mural on a wall that delimits the area of the tracks when the Northern Railway train overwhelmed them.

Svyatoslav, who was Russian-born but had become an Italian citizen living in Sesto San Giovanni, died instantly.  His friend, who was born in Monza was hit badly and suffered fractures to both bones on his right leg.  He was transferred to the emergency unit at Niguarda hospital, where they say he will remain for around 25 days of recovery.

Reportedly the train carried on in the direction of Sesto San Giovanni, as the driver didn’t notice the impact.  The alarm was raised by a resident of one of the apartment blocks, overlooking the stretch where the accident occurred, who heard the screams of the young Italian.  There were also 11 spray cans found at the sight.
