Burqa ban for hospitals in Lombardy

This sign will be displayed in all Lombardy regional hospitals

LOMBARDY -  A burqa ban has been put into place in the region of Lombardy at the beginning of the New Year.

The region has banned anyone wearing burqas from entering regional hospitals in what was described as part of an anti-terrorism security measure, officials said.

Under a ruling on Dec. 10, the regional government also decided to ban the wearing of full motorcycle helmets that can obscure one’s face and balaclava hats.

The ban also covers all official buildings.

The hospitals will be obliged to exhibit the new signs explaining the rules and to remove those who do not comply with the new regulations.
