Cardinals interrogated about 'missing' 6.5 million euros

Bishops of the Catholic Church

ROME - The testimony of the four cardinals investigated on Tuesday, should clarify the mismanagement of Vatican's finance and reveal, who is responsible for the plot against Pope Francis and his policy of renewal, Vatican sources say.

The aim of the investigation is to verify the charges brought by Monsignor Lucio Angel Vallejo Balda, who had been arrested more than a week ago. Cardinals have been interrogated also about 6.5 milion euros allocated for maintenance of St Peter's Basilica and other buildings. Money have gone missing during the administration of Tarcisio Bertone.

Officers are going to continue the investigation of the theft of confidential documents to identify the network of complicity in the Vatican. Among the stolen documents, there is long list of of apartments in the capital and 26 institutions owned by the Vatican. However, the list indicate not only properties but also names of the renters, information about suspicious transactions and other details able to embarrass the Pope. All the contracts, the allocation of real estete, expensive goods and historic buildings donated to the Vatican, which are reserved for the few, seems to be evidently the opposite to the renewal program established Francis.
