Workshop gives insight into Byron's 'celeb' status

ROME- An educational workshop about the Romantic poet Byron’s legacy will be held at the Keats-Shelley House, which according to organisers will welcome people of all ages, so long as they have a passion to learn.

The workshop called 'The Cult of Byron: Image and Reality' will be managed by museum education specialists ARTandSEEK, and coincides with the summer/autumn temporary exhbition, ‘Lord Byron in the Hand of Mary Shelley’, an exhibition looking at the relationship between the two vanguards of the Romantic literary movement.

The workshop will take place in English, and will examine primarily the image of Byron, the fanciful stories that surrounded his life, and his works that help readers to understand the poet’s enduring appeal.

A contemporary approach will be taken by the organisers, who will also look at how Byron cultivated his own celebrity culture, something which is commonplace in modern society, and how Byron’s life continues to influence the way we see youth, rebel culture and heroism.

The workshop will also confront attendants with their preconceived notions of celebrity culture, and put participants in Byron’s shoes by inviting them to write poetry inspired by his life.

ARTandSEEK is a company which offers educational programs to children and adults in English. ARTandSEEK looks to develop the critical faculties of participants in their programs, by encouraging a development of language skills, and interpersonal communication, whilst of course having fun in a multisensory experience within a museum environment.

The workshop will take place on Thursday September 10 at 10.30 a.m.

Open to all age groups and advance booking required.

Total fee of €12 or €10 (for students under 18 or over 65) for one and a half hour workshop. Price includes admission to the museum and the temporary exhibition.
