Todi Festival exhibit pays homage to Beuys

ROME- To celebrate the annual Todi Festival, the works of German artist Joseph Beuys will be on exhibition in the central Italian town. A breeding ground for contemporary art, the Festival has always impressed visitors and this year will be no exception with an entire area dedicated to Beuys called “Planet Beuys".

Among the collection of works will be the peculiar Vestito Terremoto, a work that was directly done on the clothing of gallery owner Lucio Amelio, with critic Bruno Corà, the director of the Burri Foundation and Professor Italo Tomassoni attending the opening of the exhibition on 22 August in the Sala del Capitano. Visitors to the exhibition will be welcomed to a multimedia experience, with the chance to watch some of his famous films, as well as documentary Diagramma terremoto directed by Mario Franco, which examines some of the German artist’s works. Photos by Claudio Abate detailing the process of his work will also be on show, narrating the artist’s creative trajectory.

Outside of the exhibition, artist Valentina Pallazari will be showcasing her installation entitled Berlin in Todi’s main square Piazza del Popolo. Constructed from steel, the work will be the focal point of the square, where this installation has been erected to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. With this installation, Pallazari hopes to "denounce the building of walls, tangible representations of tensions between countries and ethnicities."

Other events held at the festival include The Pirate and the Apothecary, an art exhibition funded by the Goethe Institute and inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s moral tale of the same name. The Pirate and the Apothecary will boast drawings by Berlin artist Henning Wagenbreth when it opens at the public library on August 24. Also noteworthy are Bibo’s Place, which will house the works of Bruno Ceccobelli alongside upcoming artists Alice Schivardi and Ksenya Sorokina, and Dancing Flower, an exhibition featuring works by Angelantoni Geiger which will be held in the Unonellunico exposition space from August 22.
