Unique Red Cross photography exhibition opens in Rome

ROME – A unique photography exhibition entitled “A different kind of bravery: Thomas Ashby’s photographs of the British Red Cross in Italy during World War I,” opened on Friday at the Doria Pamphilj Gallery in Rome. The display will remain open until June 6, after which it will be taken on a tour round Italy.

Organised by the British Embassy in Rome in conjunction with the British School in Rome, under the patronage of the Italian Red Cross, the exhibition will showcase the photographic works of Thomas Ashby who as a conscientious objector, operated as a volunteer for the humanitarian organisation. The images will offer an insight to the general public regarding the humanitarian co-operation that existed between the UK and Italy during the period.
