Slow Food at Expo 2015
MILAN– The Slow Food Pavilion will highlight biodiversity and give a voice to those who feed the planet.
The Slow Food area is set to open on 1 May by the movement’s president Gaetano Pascale, who will explain the reasons behind Slow Food’s presence at the universal exposition. However, the pavilion will not be officially inaugurated until 19 May, when Slow Food International president Carlo Petrini and Swiss architect Jacques Herzog are due to attend.
Events scheduled include talks, debates, conferences, presentations as well as screenings of films and documentaries. Notably, Ermanno Olmi’s short film, The Planet that Hosts Us (Il pianeta che ci ospita), set to premiere at Expo, will be shown in the Theatre every evening at 8pm. The pavilion will also have an area dedicated to wine and cheese, with a cheese tasting set to take place on a weekly basis.
From 3 Oct to 6 Oct, the Terra Madre Youth event will bring young farmers, fishers and students to Milan from all over the world. Throughout this period, the Slow Food Theatre will play host to a number of young men and women working in the food production industry, who will share their experiences, hopes and expectations.
Organisers are confident that Expo 2015 will provide a platform for discussion and reflection, in an attempt to find solutions for the future.
