Alitalia suspends pilot following shooting incident

Rome – Italy’s national airline Alitalia has suspended one of its pilots after reports that he fired multiple shots during a domestic argument over the Easter period.

According to reports, the Carabinieri were called to Maurizio Foglietti’s house in the Umbrian town of Todi, following a shooting on Easter night. The pilot fired multiple shots into the wall of his home after an argument with his brother and mother.

Following the incident, Alitalia said Foglietti “is relieved of flights and command duties” pending an internal inquiry. Prior to being suspended, Foglietti was one of the airline’s more experienced pilots having flown President Sergio Mattarella from Rome to Palermo on February 14. He currently remains under police investigation.
