Third Italian nun killed in Burundi identified

KAMENGE (BURUNDI) – Third victim named as Pope Francis expresses his grief over the deaths of three Italian nuns in Burundi.

The third Italian missionary nun killed in Burundi has been named as Sister Bernadetta Boggian, whilst Burundian police announced that she was decapitated.

Boggian was found with her colleagues Olga Raschietti and Lucia Pulici at their convent near Kamenge on Sunday afternoon. Sources from their missionary community have denied claims of the Burundian authorities that the three women had been sexually assaulted.

Pope Francis has expressed his shock at the tragic deaths, and hoped that “the blood shed would become seeds of hope to work towards solidarity between all peoples.”
