Youth unemployment reaches new high

ROME – The rate of youth unemployment in July was esteemed to be 43.7 percent, the highest it has been since 1977, ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics) revealed.

 The unemployment rate in June was 12.3 percent, down 0.3 percent on figures for May. An overall increase of 0.1 percent in the past 12 months has also been observed.

 Provisional data showed that some 3,153,000 million young people are still unemployed, a figure which has decreased 2.4 percent compared to the previous month. The rate of unemployment in the Euro Zone is continuing to decrease, heading back to the figure it was at in 2012.
