New security barriers for Termini

ROME – New security barriers to be fitted in Termini station will only enable ticket holders to access train platforms, said Mayor Ignazio Marino on Wednesday.

“We have decided that the barriers installed at the end of the 70’s and the beginning of the 80’s will be used again,” said Mr. Marino. “This way only those who already hold a train ticket will be able to approach the trains.”

This security measure is already being used in Florence to protect travelers from the uprising phenomenon of illegal porters. Mr. Marino also said that he has thought about introducing “companies that will take care of luggage transportation, so that a new professional activity could be built inside the station.”
