Father kills family before attending world cup opener

MILAN-Computer technician Carlo Lissi has been charged with triple murder after brutally killing his wife and two children before Italy’s triumph over England, which he went to watch with friends afterwards.

Lissi, 31 years old, has asked for "maximum sentence" after confessing to the murder of his 38-year-old wife, Cristina Omes, his five-year-old daughter Giulia and his 20-month year old son, Gabriele.

During police questioning the 31-year-old said his reason for killing his family was that he was in love with a female work colleague. He believed his family was a burden to him and that they were standing in the way of him and happiness.

It was about 11 pm on Saturday when Carlo and his wife were in the living room, waiting for the game to start. The children were already asleep upstairs. Carlo left his wife lying on the sofa watching TV while he went into the kitchen to 'fetch a drink.'

However Lessi returned holding a long kitchen knife and began to attack his wife. Police say the screams for help would have been mistaken for World Cup shouts, although the match had not yet started. After killing his wife, Lissi then went upstairs and slit his children’s throats whilst they were sleeping.

After the killings Lissi left his home at 11.30 to watch the match with a friend at a local pub. Sources say he dumped the murder weapon on route. When he returned home after the game at approximately two in the morning, he called police claiming he had ‘found’ the bodies of his family.

Sources say that he celebrated Italy’s victory as if nothing had happened.
